Writer Christopher Yost on Iron Man: Armored Adventures
It wasn’t long after Christopher Yost began his internship at Marvel Comics’ west coast office that he rose through the ranks to a more coveted writing position.
With his knack for superhero storytelling, Yost found himself writing episodes for the animated series X-Men Evolution. During this period, Yost met his colleague Craig Kyle, and together the two writers began working on what turned out to be one of the most popular new comic characters to appear in recent times, Wolverine’s teenage clone X-23.
Kyle and Yost developed a close rapport that saw them through the development of numerous projects, including Wolverine and the X-Men, Hulk Vs. and Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow. Yost admits that comic book writing is his first love, and he was lucky enough to collaborate with Kyle on several comic books – including X-Force, New X-Men, X-23: Innocence Lost & Target X and X-Force/Cable: Messiah War.
With this extensive resume behind him, it’s not surprising that Yost was selected to work on Iron Man: Armored Adventures on his own. The new series details the adventures of a teenage Tony Stark as he battles the forces of evil wearing his greatest invention, a suit that makes him into the invincible Iron Man.
Tony’s story begins when his father dies in a plane crash and he first takes on his new superhero alter ego. Along with his high school friends Jim Rhodes, Pepper Pots and Happy Hogan, Tony Stark fights against a number of evil villains, including Mandarin and Crimson Dynamo.
“We wanted to see Tony Stark, the Tony Stark that comic book fans and now movie fans know,” Yost tells Comic Book Resources on the series. “We wanted him to be recognizable even though he is a teenager. So based on the premise of teen Tony going to school in high school our goal was how do we make it as much like the Tony Stark that we know and love as possible? Every episode and every story we really approached it like that.”
