Iron Man is someone we all know
Writer and Iron Man: Armored Adventures creator Christopher Yost’s first position at Marvel Comics’ west coast office was as an intern – but the self-described hardcore comic book fan was quickly promoted and was soon being asked to write episodes for the animated series X-Men Evolution.
When Yost sat down to create Iron Man: Armored Adventures, it was his first time out on his own with such a huge project. And, Yost says, he was a bit wary of the task, because he says he wasn’t sure how a series based on a teenage Tony Stark would work.
But Yost created a show that has been acclaimed by Entertainment Weekly for its “smart writing and stellar CG butt-kickery” – teenage hero or no.
“I would say please give it a chance,” Yost tells the naysayers during an interview with CBR. “The bottom line is no, it’s not going to be like the comic. You know what? The movie was not like the comic. The movie obviously made changes to the original too. It wasn’t in Vietnam. Every time you translate something to either another medium or another era there are changes made. Yes, this is a big one. This is a big, big change. We recognize that and we know that. Trust us, we know. We’ve heard that criticism and we’ve heard it before.”
But it seems that fans of the show have had the final say: Iron Man: Armored Adventures has been successful on a global scale and 26 all-new episodes have been ordered for the show’s upcoming second season. The Series 1 Volume 2 DVD release is on its way out April 19, featuring action-packed episodes from the show’s original season, picking up where Volume 1 left off.
“With Iron Man: Armored Adventures,” Yost says, “part of the fun is that you are interacting with the larger Marvel Universe too, which does happen in Armored Adventures. The bottom line is that all of Marvel’s properties share one great thing and that is that the characters are real people…. Iron Man as Tony Stark is someone we know. He’s got doubts, fears, he gets angry, he gets upset and he’s got drama just like real life.”
