Iron Man as you’ve never seen him before

With Iron Man 2 opening around the country and the Iron Man Armored Adventures boxset in the shops, we decided to take a look at the different shapes he’s taken over the years. Iron man has been re-imagined plenty of times since his creation in 1963 by a number of different minds. Here is a list of 10 of the most interesting conceptions….

10. Iron Man Armored Adventures

IMAA is one of the most recent Iron Man spin offs of the Marvel franchise. The story follows the young Tony Stark from the death of his father and the ensuing quest for revenge and general do good-ing, whilst still having to deal with the normal teenage problems.

9. Ultimate Iron Man

The Ultimate Iron Man series appeared in 2005 and was release in two five part miniseries. The series tells the story of the origins of the Ultimate Marvel version of Iron Man who later appears in a number of Ultimate series.

8. Iron Maniac

This evil reincarnation of Iron Man accrued in Marvel’s Earth 5012 universe. When he appears he is mistakenly trusted by the Fantastic Four and other members of S.H.I.E.L.D. After gaining as much knowledge as he needs to proceeds to kill and dance on the grave of as many of the members of S.H.I.E.L.D as he can be for being torn a fresh one by the surviving members.

7. Zombie Iron Man

In the Marvel Zombies universe Iron Man becomes infect with the zombie virus whilst trying to save survivors. Once infect, Iron Man attacks the Silver Surfer gaining some cosmic power from eating part of his body (which I can only assume is the power to become great friends with passing birds of prey). Zombie Iron Man then proceeds to eat his way across the galaxy, finally being destroyed by the Hulk.

6. Iron Mandrill

The version of Iron Man appearing in the Marvel Apes mini-series is known as Iron Mandrill . In the series he is a member of the Apevengers (pun very much intended) that battle with a crossovers from the Marvel Zombie Universe. Along with all the normal Iron Man powers it is rumoured that feces throwing played a big role.

5. Iron Man Anime

This Japanese re-imagining of Iron Man seems to stick closely to the original, saying this there is of course this series has the typical Japanese look and feel you would expect from any real anime.

4. Lord Iron

Lord Iron appears in the 1602: New World Marvel series. Tony Stark is capture in the Holy Land during the English/Spanish war and is tortured by David Banner. As a result he is left severally crippled and of course this means building a pre-industrial revolution version of the famous Iron Man suit.

3. Iron Man Exiles

In the Exiles series Iron Man is the tyrant ruler of the World which as a whole is pretty annoying for everyone else. He also seems to have taken up wearing Dr Dooms cloak in a bit of super villain cross dressing.

2. Iron Man Animate Series

One of the first translations of Iron Man, moving him from the page to the small screen is still one of the best. If for no other reason but the amazing theme tune which was probably written in less time than this list.

1. Iron Man 2 (The Movie)

The new Iron Man movies arguably have to be the best version of Iron Man in the past decade. Not much more to say than that, so enjoy the trailer again (as I am sure if you have read this far you will have seen it a few times already)
